(ASTM D635) Rate of Burning and/or Extent and Time of Burning of Plastics in a Horizontal Position. The equivalent standard is UL 94 and ISO 1210 . Thi s fire-test-response test method covers a small-scale laboratory screening procedure for comparing the relative linear rate of burning or extent and time of burning, or both, of plastics in the form of bars, molded or cut from sheets, plates, or panels, and tested in the horizontal position.

 

(ASTM D1929) Standard Test Method for Determining Ignition Temperature of Plastics. This fire test response test method covers a laboratory determination of the flash ignition temperature and spontaneous ignition temperature of plastics using a hot-air furnace….The equivalent standard is UBC 6-26 and ISO 871.

 

(ASTM D2843) Standard Test Method for Density of Smoke from the Burning or Decomposition of Plastics. This fire-test-response test method covers a laboratory procedure for measuring and observing the relative amounts of smoke obscuration produced by the burning or decomposition of plastics. It is intended to be used for measuring the smoke-producing characteristics of plastics under controlled conditions of combustion or decomposition….The equivalent standard is UBC 26-5.

 

(ASTM D2859) Standard Test Method for Ignition Characteristics of Finished Textile Floor Covering Materials. This fire-test-response standard describes a test method for the determination of the flammability of finished textile floor covering materials when exposed to an ignition source under controlled laboratory conditions….The equivalent standard is Carpet and Rug, 16 CFR, Part 1630.4, 1631.4.

(ASTM D3014) Standard Test Method for Flame Height, Time of Burning, and Loss of Mass of Rigid Thermoset Cellular Plastics in a Vertical Position. This is a fire-test-response standard. This test method covers a small-scale laboratory screening procedure for comparing relative extent and time of burning and loss of mass of rigid thermoset cellular plastics.

(ASTM E970) Standard Test Method for Critical Radiant Flux of Exposed Attic Floor Insulation Using a Radiant Heat Energy Source. This fire-test-response standard describes a procedure for measuring the critical radiant flux of exposed attic floor insulation subjected to a flaming ignition source in a graded radiant heat energy environment in a test chamber. The specimen can be any attic floor insulation.

 

(ASTM E1321) Standard Test Method for Determining Material Ignition and Flame Spread Properties. This fire test response standard determines material properties related to piloted ignition of a vertically oriented sample under a constant and uniform heat flux and to lateral flame spread on a vertical surface due to an externally applied radiant-heat flux.

 

(ASTM E1352) Standard Test Method for Cigarette Ignition Resistance of Mock-Up Upholstered Furniture Assemblies. This test method is designed for the assessment of the resistance of upholstered furniture mock-up assemblies to combustion after exposure to smoldering cigarettes under specified conditions.

 

(ASTM E1353) Standard Test Methods for Cigarette Ignition Resistance of Components of Upholstered Furniture. These test methods are designed for the assessment of the resistance of upholstered furniture component assemblies to combustion after exposure to smoldering cigarettes under specified conditions.

 

(ASTM E1354) Standard Test Method for Heat and Visible Smoke Release Rates for Materials and Products Using an Oxygen Consumption Calorimeter. This test method is used to determine the ignitability, heat release rates, mass loss rates, effective heat of combustion and visible smoke development of materials and products.

 

(ASTM E1474) Standard Test Method for Determining the Heat Release Rate of Upholstered Furniture and Mattress Components or Composites Using a Bench Scale Oxygen Consumption Calorimeter. This fire-test-response test method can be used to determine the ignitability and heat release from the composites of contract, institutional, or high-risk occupancy upholstered furniture or mattresses using a bench scale oxygen consumption calorimeter.

 

(ASTM E1537) Standard Test Method for Fire Testing of Upholstered Furniture. The purpose of this test method is to determine the burning behavior of upholstered furniture used in public occupancies by measuring specific fire-test responses when the specimen of furniture is subjected to a specified flaming ignition source under well-ventilated conditions.

 

(ASTM E1590) Standard Test Method for Fire Testing of Mattresses. This test method provides a means of determining the burning behavior of mattresses used in public occupancies by measuring specific fire test responses when the test specimen, a mattress or mattress with foundation, is subjected to a specified flaming ignition source under well-ventilated conditions.

 

(ASTM E1623) Standard Test Method for Determination of Fire and Thermal Parameters of Materials, Products, and Systems Using an Intermediate Scale Calorimeter (ICAL). The fire-test-response characteristics determined by this test method include the ignitability, heat release rates, mass loss rates, visible smoke development, and gas release of materials, products, and assemblies under well ventilated conditions.

 

(ASTM E1740) Standard Test Method for Determining the Heat Release Rate and Other Fire-Test-Response Characteristics of Wallcovering Composites Using a Cone Calorimeter. This fire-test-response test method covers determination of the ignitability and heat release rate of composites consisting of a wallcovering, a substrate, and all laminating adhesives, coatings, and finishes.

 

(ASTM E2074) Standard Test Method for Fire Tests of Door Assemblies, Including Positive Pressure Testing of Side-Hinged and Pivoted Swinging Door Assemblies. This fire-test-response standard determines the ability of door assemblies to function as a fire-resistive barrier during a standard fire endurance test. Such a test method shall not be construed as determining the suitability of door assemblies for continued use after their exposure to fire.

(NFPA 268) Standard Test Method for Determining Ignitibility of Exterior Wall Assemblies Using a Radiant Heat Energy Source. Describes a method for determining the ignition resistance of exterior wall assemblies from exposure to radiant heat in the presence of a pilot ignition source.

 

(NFPA 269) Standard Test Method for Developing Toxic Potency Data for Use in Fire Hazard Modeling. The method is intended to provide a means for assessing the lethal toxic potency of combustion products produced from a material or product ignited when exposed to a radiant flux and can provide a means for the evaluation of materials and products.

 

(NFPA 272) Standard Method of Test for Heat and Visible Smoke Release Rates for Upholstered Furniture Components or Composites and Mattresses Using an Oxygen Consumption Calorimeter. Determines the ignition time and the release rates of heat from components or composite structures of upholstered furniture and mattresses using an oxygen consumption calorimeter.

 

(NFPA 273) Standard Method of Test for Determining the Degrees of Combustibility of Building Materials. Determines the degree of combustibility of building materials by measuring the heat release rate and total heat release from specimens exposed to radiant heat using an oxygen consumption calorimeter.

 

(NFPA 701) Standard Methods of Fire Tests for Flame Propagation of Textiles and Films. Covers fire safety requirements that apply to flame-resistant materials which are used extensively in the interior furnishing of buildings and transport facilities, in protective clothing for certain occupations and situations, and for protective outdoor coverings such as tarpaulins and tents.

 

(NFPA 285) Standard Method of Test for the Evaluation of Flammability Characteristics of Exterior Non-Load-Bearing Wall Assemblies Containing Combustible Components Using the Intermediate-Scale, Multistory Test Apparatus. Test method of determining the flammability characteristics of exterior, non loading-bearing wall assemblies/panels, which contain combustible components. The test evaluates the capability of the test assembly to resist flame propagation, resist vertical spread of flame within the panel and internally surface (room side) to another story, and lateral spread to adjacent spaces. The test is an intermediate-scale, multistory test apparatus.

(UL 44) Standard for Thermoset-Insulated Wires and Cables. These requirements cover 14 - 4/0 AWG and 213 - 2000 kcmil sizes of Type XHHW-2, XHHW, XHH, RHW-2, RHH, RHW, SIS, and SA wires and cables for use in accordance with Article 310 and other applicable parts of National Electrical Code. This standard is equivalent to ASTM E2061.

 

(UL 94) Standard for Tests for Flammability of Plastic Materials for Parts in Devices and Appliances. These requirements cover tests for flammability of plastic materials used for parts in devices and appliances. They are intended to serve as a preliminary indication of their acceptability with respect to flammability for a particular application.

(UL 1040) Standard for Fire Test of Insulated Wall Construction. This test method describes the testing procedures and requirements applicable to insulated wall constructions by use of a standardized large-scale corner test…This standard is equivalent to FM 4880.

 

(UL 1056) Standard for Fire Test of Upholstered Furniture. The purpose of this test method is to investigate the ability of upholstered furniture to resist rapid heat release when subjected to a flaming ignition source.

 

(UL 1256) Standard for Fire Test of Roof Deck Constructions. These requirements cover fire test methods to evaluate the performance of metallic and nonmetallic roof deck constructions subjected to internal (under deck) fire exposures for the purpose of determining the contribution of the roof covering material, insulation, and other components of the roofing system to the spread of fire within a building.

 

(UL 1715) Standard for Fire Test of Interior Finish Material. This test method describes the testing procedures and requirements applicable to the classification of interior finish material assemblies by use of a standardized room fire exposure…This standard is the equivalent of UBC 26-3.

 

(UL 1895) Fire Tests of Mattresses. Standard for Fire Tests for Foamed Plastics Used for Decorative Purposes (UL 1975) The purpose of this test method is to determine the ability of foamed plastics and products containing foamed plastics used for decorative purposes to resist rapid heat release when subjected to a flaming ignition source.

Barrier Test Method - 1990 . This test method is intended to define the minimum performance level for barrier materials to be used between Class II cover fabrics and conventional polyurethane foam in horizontal seating surfaces. No consideration is given in this test methodology to such necessary attributes as flex life, longevity and maintenance of aesthetics.

 

Filling/Padding Component Test Method - 1990 Part A-For Slab or Garneted Materials. This test method is designed to determine those slab or garneted filling/padding components which exhibit sufficient resistance to smoldering cigarette ignition to meet the UFAC construction criteria.

 

Filling/Padding Component Test Method - 1990 Part B-For Fibrous or Particulate Materials. This test method is designed to determine those fibrous or particulate material constructions which exhibit sufficient resistance to smoldering cigarette ignition to meet the UFAC construction criteria.
