Determination of burning behavior of interior materials in motor vehicles

This test is used to determine the burning rate of materials used in the occupant compartments of motor vehicles after ignition by a small flame. The aim of the test is to assess the fire hazard caused by fires in the interior of motor vehicles originating from sources such as matches or cigarettes.

Summary of test method:

The test is performed in a special combustion chamber. The specimen is clamped in a U-shaped frame and arranged in a horizontal position to the flame. One side of the specimen is exposed to a defined flame for 15 s.
During the test the burned distance and the time taken to burn this distance are measured. As result the burning rate in mm/min is determined
